Alfredo Marcucci (81)
has left us
14 sept 1929 - 12 june 2010
Cremation ceremony was held at
June 19, Hasselt, Belgium
Alfredo Marcucci passed away at June 12th. He was
one of the greatest and most beloved bandoneonists of our time.
As
a young man he played with the famous tango orchestras of the golden
era of Tango, and he travelled the world with the Latin folk
group 'Los Paraguayos'. Years later, tired of travelling he settled
down, with his
Dutch wife, in Belgium, where he took a job in a factory. His musical
talent was however rediscovered by the musicians Dirk van Esbroek and
Juan Masondo with whom he started a new group, 'Tango al Sur'. Alfredo
became a star. He became the teacher of the new generation of now
famous bandoneonists. He founded his own tango orchestras, like Sexteto
Veritango, and Orquesta Tipica Alfredo Marcucci, and toured
Europe.
At his 75th birtday at a (second) hommage organised in his honour he
enjoyed playing more than anything else.
The first time I saw and heard Marcucci play, it was with Masondo and
Van Esbroek, in 1992 at a milonga in Amsterdam. I remember too well,
how I enjoyed every note of it, and that it amazed me how much their
music and enthusiasme grabbed me. These kind of experiences kept coming
back all those years since, whenever Marcucci played. Only recently,
the strong and delicate bandoneonplayer became a fragile and delicate
bandoneonplayer and the third hommage planned for this great musician
in Janary 2010, had to be cancelled, for him being hospitalized.
Singer Fabián Russo, responding to the sad
news
from a rainy Buenos Aires, considers his work with Alfredo Marcucci (in
the Netherlands) fundamental for his artistic life.
In 1996 Fabián wrote a small Marcucci biography, that's translated from
moeten gaan. Lees alles Video:

Eduardo Aguirre passed away
"Me
voy", he said
Eduardo, a true and very respected Argentinian milonguero, and dance teacher, has died.
All the sudden, on midday, April 7, 2010, in Amsterdam.
After
they met in Buenos Aires, 20 years ago in tango salon Almagro, he and
Yvonne Meissner became friends, later dance partners, lovers and
partners in life.
Eduardo (born 31 August 1938) is the beloved
father of his children in Argentina, and for many of us, a great
friend, tango teacher, tango
singer, world traveller, the best pulpo cook, and once a great soccer
player.
Eduardo and Yvonne had been teaching and performing tango for many years, in Europe and the Americas.
Eduardo
was already 71 years of age, but he danced till
his very last night.
Many, many tangueros came to pay their respect, with a last visit to Eduardo, in the mortuary in Amsterdam.
Proud of having been his friend

Worldfamous dancer Osvaldo Zotto (46) dies
On friday January 8, 2010, Osvaldo Zotto was found dead. Totally
unexpected, since his agenda was full of exiting events, worldwide.
He'd just returned to Buenos Aires a few days ago. The cause of his
death is still unknown (at least to me, the editor of this website).
Friends all around the world are shocked and very sad after hearing the news.
The world has lost a beautiful dancer, who was for many a great example as a dancer and a great friend.
To me, personally, his dancing was a great inspiration and the number 1 tango performer.
'Tete', Alberto Rusconi, died unexpectedly at the morning of January 7th, in Buenos Aires, just after his 74th birthday.
He danced till his very last night, confidently looking forward to the
celebration of his birthday as this was planned for the coming
saturday in La Calesita.
This news came from Jessica Bijvoet, dutch tangoteacher visiting Buenos Aires.
Tete travelled the world to share his skill and experiences in the
style we now call 'milonguero style', the style he already excelled in
before the word was used to describe it.
See Tete and Silvia dance In La Trastienda, Buenos Aires, 2002.
I choose this video for 2 reasons. It's quality, and because I was there too, at the night of 'Gavito y sus amigos'.
